Becoming a Partner.

LEARN TO BACK YOURSELF

After the elation of becoming a Partner at a law firm, has your confidence and self-esteem started to take a dip?

Do you find yourself ruminating, going over the same negative thoughts over and over again? Is your experience of becoming a Partner not quite what you expected?

Do you think over-working, trying to please as many people as possible and being hyper-focused on mistake avoidance is the way forward? Do you tell yourself it will be ok, you just need to keeping going and push harder?

I'm afraid these coping strategies don’t work. You will burnout, your personal and professional  relationships will suffer and it's highly likely your physical and mental health will take the toll.

I’ve seen what happens...

Your attention is taken away from your business strategy.

Your energy to develop and nurture your new  business is reduced and you become anxious in quieter periods.

Your team can become over-reliant on you as you don't make time for effective delegation. This is draining for you and demoralising for others.

You can develop a co-dependent entangled relationship with your clients. This can make you feel good and needed at first but over time, you will feel out of control and sometimes bullied by your clients.

The anxiety you feel and the exhaustion you experience can then fuel old self doubts and your strategy for new business becomes very reactive and misaligned.

Becoming a Partner at a law firm is the beginning of a new professional journey that requires new ways.

It requires a vision for your business, relationship intelligence, confidence to build and grow your business and leadership skills.
It is common these days for new Partners or those thinking about the Partnership track to feel disillusioned. I hear this disillusionment on a regular basis. I understand it, we are in a point in time where the shake ups in the world of business are just beginning, there are many changes ahead. What new Partners need to do and be, is very different to what they might be seeing in more senior Partners. I truly believe that new Partners these days need to step outside their own law firms for inspiration and new role models.

I have created a short coaching programme for new Partners who are curious about exploring the benefits of having a coach to support this new journey.

In this coaching programme, I help my clients to take the first steps to creating new behaviours and mindsets that are aligned with the latest science of success. I set them on a new path in their journey to learning to back themselves as a Partner.

Client Review

I picked Catherine due to her experience of working with lawyers. I never expected her in-depth understanding on my intersectionality as a woman of colour from working class roots. I have never felt so heard and understood. It’s been truly transformational.

Client Review

As a senior lawyer I contacted Dr Catherine Sykes to review my professional pathway from scholarship girl to senior lawyer to transition to a more senior mentoring role. I found Dr Sykes an excellent professional, and extremely wise.

Client Review

Dr Catherine Sykes is absolutely excellent. Her experience and quality of care and professionalism is first class. I would highly recommend her services.

Client Review

Catherine is very professional and approachable. Sessions with her are very effective as she can quickly assess the root of the issues and design an action plan that works in maintaining mental health in a high pressure work environment.
